Do you dream of working directly with business owners and community organizations to make it a thriving place to live, work and play?


The Barton Village BIA is hiring for the exciting role of Executive Director.

 

You'll be a perfect fit for this role if you love getting to know people and finding ways to better communicate, and loop people into networks and resources. If you're a boots on the ground kind of person who loves dreaming of ideas, but enjoys executing them just as much, this role is for you. You'll enjoy overseeing programs and services, hiring and managing summer students, and can handle daily operations, meetings, and budgets. We're looking for someone who will take an active role in promoting Barton Village through public relations and can collaborate on creating marketing strategies.

 

Your role will be critical in developing Barton Village BIA and driving community initiatives, streetscape improvements, event and project management, and you'll be excellent at communicating your progress with the BIA members and the BIA Board.


Responsibilities:

Manage/support governance of the BIA

  • Handle/oversee all matters related to governance of the BIA – set meetings, prepare agendas, distribute minutes for monthly board meetings and regular committee meetings

  • Work with board and committees to develop and execute an annual strategic plan, budgets, and work plans

  • Manage annual budget and develop regular financial reports

  • Attend meetings, and act on the decisions made by board’s sub-committees.

  • Organize & attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

  • Attending appropriate meetings and other relative networking events as a representative of the Barton Village BIA.

  • Liaise with City of Hamilton personnel with respect to soliciting their help and advice on capital and marketing issues.



Oversee BIA Office

  •  Act as the contact person (and when required, the spokesperson), for the BIA - answer telephone and email inquiries, and follow up/advance as required

  • Develop and then maintain weekly/ monthly internal and external communication items



Communication

  • Liaise with BIA membership and various stakeholders.

  • Engaging in business and community outreach relevant to the strategic plan.


Develop and Execute Public Relations

  • Develop and recommend public relations plans and programs including media coverage; and direct, coordinate and monitor execution of approved plans and programs.

  • Creates and distributes internal/ external public relations materials

  • Writing and distribute press releases, information, and news alerts


Marketing/ Events

  • Along with the direction of the Marketing/ Events Committee, explore new initiatives that help promote the Barton Village neighbourhood.

  • Plan and promote Barton Village signature events, as well as facilitate participation with city wide events.

  • Liaise with City of Hamilton to ensure all proper permits have been submitted and event guidelines are being follow

 

Streetscape and Beautification

  • Along with the direction of the Streetscape and Beautification Committee, submit any capital cost share requests on a yearly basis.

  • Implement the BIA’s Streetscape Beautification and Maintenance program working closely with the associated stakeholders.

  • Prepare and recommend positions and actions on issues affecting the BIA.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven track record for implementing change and successfully carrying out initiatives

  • Leadership skills

  • Professional experience working with small businesses

  • Experience with budgeting and financial reporting

  • Experience organizing large scale public events preferred

  • Strong communication, organizational and time management skills


 

Compensation
This is a full time, permanent position with a base salary of $60,000
